A battery is the heart of a cell phone, therefore if you want to use your cell phone for most of the time, you should try to preserve your battery, here are some tips on how to do it:

  1. When you buy a new battery, be sure to fully charge it before yor first use (initialize). a nickel based battery needs to be charged for 16 hours initially, while lithium-ion battery needs to be charged for about 5 to 6 hours. Just ignore the information that tell you that the phone is flly charged, since it is inaccurate if the battery has not been initialized.
  2. Keep the battery in a room temperature, try not to keep the battery in a high temperature place.
  3. Know your battery type and how to handle it, read the manual.
  4. Use only the charger that was meant for our battery.
  5. If you are not going to use your phone for a long time, remove the battery and put it in a cool place, the refrigerator would be a good place, just remember to wrap your battery so your battery won’t be exposed to moisture, but don’t forget to put the battery in a room temperature at least for an hour and recharge it before you use it again.
  6. Clean the battery contacts on your battery and on the phone using cotton buds and alcohol to clean the dust and maximize the efficiencies of the energy transfer
